On the outskirts of Pretoria traffic signs or lights do not regulate the crossroads—they are located between a fast-expanding informal settlement on one side and a formal, government housing settlement on the other.
I came across these fractured chairs scattered arbitrarily on the roadside. The scene reminded me of an archeological site in that the shattered, dismembered chairs scattered across the landscape recall skeletal remains that provide evidence of human existence. (Artist Statement)

I had stopped my car to pick up some students. In the car my son and a friend were waiting. Next to my car were two guys standing talking on the sidewalk. When I returned a few minutes later, all that remained of their conversation was a spattering of blood and fallen jacaranda blossoms on the pavement where they had been standing. (Artist Statement)
